Who we are

A story that began with neighbours saving together.

Nyota Stars Community Based Organization is a grassroots organization operating in Tharaka Nithi County. It began in 2014 as a self-help group driven by the need for social development and economic empowerment for its members, starting with merry-go-round and table banking, and was officially registered by the Directorate of Social Development in 2021.

Since the Corona period, when members used their knowledge and skills in health and education to lead community health education, that passion has never dimmed. Members continue volunteering in community education, advocacy and mobilization to improve health seeking behaviour and the uptake of preventive and promotive services.

What we do

Community Health Education

Volunteer-led education that improves health seeking behaviour in homes, churches and schools across the county.

Advocacy & Mobilization

Working hand in hand with Community Health Promoters to bring families to the services that already exist for them.

Preventive & Promotive Services

Driving uptake of deworming, Vitamin A supplementation and hygiene practices, the quiet work that prevents illness.

Economic Empowerment

Table banking and merry-go-round savings that grew from our founding years and still steady member households.

The Kiereni & Ibiriga medical mission

In May 2026, PCEA Kiereni Church partnered with the US based Safari N Smiles Organization for a two-day medical mission targeting 500 attendees at Kiereni and 400 at Ibiriga. Nyota Stars conducted the community mobilization alongside Community Health Promoters, and over 1,200 people turned up.

Services included eye health, dental and general consultation, health education and a school health programme.
